Accept Yourself and Be Happy

By Michael Ssali
Did you look in the mirror this morning?
Were you unsatisfied with your facial appearance?
Are you too fat or are you too skinny?
Is your skin color a little bit too pale? Too dark?
Well, we have all been there. We found ourselves in a situation in which we were uncomfortable with what we looked like. We focused on the surface instead of diving deeper.
If you are one of the people who looks at your outward appearance and feel that you do not look good enough, just think about where you are in the grand scheme of things.
You might feel that you don't look good enough to impress a certain girl. You might feel that the way you look does not attract men.

The problem with that way of thinking is that you are putting others first instead of putting yourself first. In order to be loved, one must love him or herself. Instead of focusing on the negative, try focusing on the positive.
Make a list of things that are positive about you. If you focus on the positive things, the negative things will cease to matter.
So how can you focus on the positive things?
First of all, write down a list of all things you can do well.
Are you a great writer?
Are you a great listener?
Do you know how to solve complex puzzles?
Are you great at capturing rowdy kids' attention?
All of these things are positive things that matter a lot more than physical appearance. I
f you can do something of great quality with your mind power, that is a lot more beneficial to your well-being than how you look.
Once you have figured out what you do best, start doing it every day.
If you have a job, continue working in that job, but do your positive activity as a hobby.
Keep doing it as much as you can. Don't worry about doing it for "free" because what we do for "free" is sometimes what we can do best.
The more you keep doing it, the more you will receive joy. The more you receive joy the healthier you will be.
Once you're healthy, you will certainly accept yourself for who you are and you will love yourself. When you love yourself, you will become loved by others.
Once you're loving yourself and loved by others, you may eventually find a soul mate with whom you might start a family. Once that family is formed, instill the above in your children so that they will accept themselves for who they are and love themselves.
